CONTEXTUAL STATEMENT

In Part One I observed a space I frequently visit to study, which is a café. The PW Café located in Central Auckland, High Street. Even though I visit this space regularly I had not really considered the people and atmosphere set within the site. When really observing the occurrences in the space I noticed this is a kind of space where people tend to get lost in their own thoughts but also for people to retire from outside and just sit and rest with their friends. However, with that different kind of people enter the space – solo or in groups and with that their purpose of entering are different. Moving onto Part Two of this project I would like to create an intervention to support the different interests and use around public space. The people that enters in alone are usually there to study or work on something whilst people who enter as pairs or as a group tend to talk quite loudly, disturbing those trying to concentrate on what they are preoccupied with.

To consider:
• How to separate the loud and quiet people?
• How to separate the individuals and groups?
• How can I keep the noise levels down so people studying/working in the space are not disturbed?
